Pluck: A Recipe-First AnyList Alternative
AnyList has been one of the best shared grocery lists since 2012, with a recipe organizer and, on AnyList Complete, a meal planning calendar. It imports recipes from websites that publish standard recipe markup; a TikTok, a Reel or a cookbook page has to be typed or pasted in. Pluck starts from the other end: it reads recipes out of videos, posts and photos, plans your week from the ones you saved, and builds a grocery list you share with up to 5 people.

Where AnyList falls short
Recipes come in by markup or by hand
AnyList imports from websites that publish standard recipe markup, and its help pages say to copy and paste the recipe when a site doesn't. Its documentation lists no import from TikTok, Instagram or YouTube and no photo scanning, so a recipe from a video or a cookbook page is typed in. The free plan stops at 5 web imports.
The meal planner is paid, and you fill it yourself
The meal planning calendar is part of AnyList Complete ($9.99 a year, or $14.99 for a household). An Ideas tab suggests recipes from your collection, but AnyList doesn't document a way to have the week built for you.
Nothing for what's already in the fridge
AnyList's feature list has no pantry and no search by the ingredients you have on hand.
What Pluck does differently
Reads the recipe wherever it is
Share a TikTok, a Reel or a YouTube video and Pluck reads the frames, on-screen text, audio and caption together. Photograph a cookbook page or a handwritten card and it becomes an editable recipe too.
Plans the week from your own recipes
On Plus and Pro, Fill my week fills the empty days of your meal plan from the recipes you saved: favourites mixed with ones you haven't tried, nothing repeated from last week, and dishes that share fresh ingredients so less goes to waste. You swap what you don't want, accept, and Pluck offers that week's grocery list. How it works.
A photo of your fridge finds dinner
"What can I cook?" ranks your saved recipes by the ingredients you type in, free on every plan. Pantry scan does the typing for you from a photo of your fridge or cupboard.
Help at the stove
Cook mode shows one step at a time with the ingredients for that step and timers that ring even when the app is closed. On paid plans, "Ask about this step" brings in an AI cooking assistant that knows the recipe.
Frequently asked questions
Is Pluck a good AnyList alternative?
It depends on which half of AnyList you use. If the shared list is the point, with any number of people, Siri or Alexa, a web app and online ordering in the US, AnyList is hard to beat and costs $9.99 a year. If recipes are the point, Pluck is the better fit: it saves them from videos, photos and any website, plans the week from them, and still gives you a grocery list you can share with up to 5 people.
Is AnyList Complete worth it?
At $9.99 a year ($14.99 for a household) it is good value for what it unlocks: the web, Mac and Apple Watch apps, unlimited recipe import from websites, and the meal planning calendar. It doesn't add import from videos or photos, and the calendar is filled by hand.
Can I share a grocery list in Pluck like in AnyList?
Yes. Open a list, tap Share list and send the invite link. Up to 5 other people can join, each with their own free Pluck account, and everyone's changes show up within seconds. AnyList has no limit on people and also shares recipes and the meal plan across a household; in Pluck those two stay personal. More on sharing a grocery list.
Can AnyList import recipes from TikTok or Instagram?
Not according to its documentation. AnyList imports from websites that carry standard recipe markup and suggests copy and paste for the rest. Pluck reads the video itself, so a recipe that is only spoken or only shown on screen still comes through.
Can I move my AnyList recipes to Pluck?
There is no one-step import, because AnyList documents no bulk export: recipes leave one at a time by email or print. For a recipe that came from a website, paste the original link into Pluck. For the rest, a screenshot or a photo of the printed recipe works with Pluck's photo extraction. Each one uses an extraction.
Does Pluck work with Siri or Alexa, or order groceries online?
No. Pluck has no voice assistant integration, no web or desktop app and no link to grocery delivery. AnyList has all three, with online ordering in the United States.
