Pluck: A Samsung Food Alternative That Keeps the Whole Recipe
Samsung Food, called Whisk until 2023, is a big recipe and meal planning app, free for most of what it does: a recipe catalog, communities, nutrition, a pantry list and tailored weekly plans, on phones and the web. What it saves from another website is the ingredient list and a link. Its help centre says instructions are intentionally not imported. Pluck saves the whole recipe, steps included, from a website, a cooking video or a photo, and plans your week from the recipes you saved.

Where Samsung Food falls short
It doesn't import the instructions
Samsung Food's help centre says: "we intentionally do not import instructions but rather link to the original recipe source." You get the ingredients in the app and the method on someone else's website, so the steps go if that page moves or goes offline. Smart Cook Mode can write AI steps for a recipe; unlimited use is part of Food+.
No documented reading of the video
You can share a link into Samsung Food from other apps, and its importer works from the recipe markup a page publishes. Its help centre doesn't describe reading a TikTok, a Reel or a YouTube video's frames or audio, which is where creators often put the quantities.
The planning extras are in Food+
Tailored weekly plans (after two free ones), recipe search by your Food List, Personalize with AI and unlimited photo scans are part of Samsung Food+, at $6.99 a month or $59.99 a year.
What Pluck does differently
The whole recipe, kept
Pluck saves ingredients and steps as your own editable copy, available offline. It stays in your recipe box whatever happens to the original page.
Reads the video itself
Share a cooking video and Pluck reads the frames, on-screen text, audio and caption together, so a recipe that is only spoken or only shown on screen still comes through. Photo carousels become one recipe.
Plans from your recipes, not a catalog
On Plus and Pro, Fill my week fills the empty days of your meal plan from the recipes you saved: favourites mixed with ones you haven't tried, nothing repeated from last week, and dishes that share fresh ingredients. You swap what you don't want before anything is added. How it works.
A grocery list you share, and help at the stove
One list for the week, merged and sorted by aisle, shared live with up to 5 people. In cook mode, timers ring even when the app is closed, and on paid plans "Ask about this step" brings in an AI cooking assistant that knows the recipe.
Frequently asked questions
Is Pluck a good Samsung Food alternative?
If you want a recipe catalog to browse, nutrition tracking, a pantry list or a web app, Samsung Food does more, and most of it is free. If you want the recipes you find elsewhere saved in full, including from cooking videos, and a week planned from those recipes, Pluck is the better fit.
Is Samsung Food the same as Whisk?
Yes. Samsung Next acquired Whisk in 2019, and the app was relaunched as Samsung Food on August 30, 2023.
Does Samsung Food save a recipe's instructions?
Not when you save from another website. Its help centre says instructions are intentionally not imported and the recipe links to the original source instead. Pluck saves the ingredients and the steps as an editable copy in your recipe box.
Does Pluck plan meals like Samsung Food's tailored plans?
On Plus and Pro, Fill my week plans the empty days of your week: dinner by default, and breakfast, lunch and snacks if you choose. The difference is the source. Samsung Food builds a plan around your tastes, diet and health goals; Pluck plans from the recipes you saved yourself, and needs at least 5 of them.
Can I move my Samsung Food recipes to Pluck?
Samsung Food documents no export, but a recipe saved from a website links to its original page. Paste that link into Pluck and it extracts the full recipe, steps included. Each one uses an extraction (3 a month on the free plan, 50 on Plus).
Does Pluck have nutrition info, a pantry list or a web app like Samsung Food?
No. Pluck has no nutrition information, no stocked pantry list and no web app, and it doesn't come with recipes to browse. Instead of a pantry you maintain, "What can I cook?" takes the ingredients you type, or a photo of your fridge, at the moment you want to cook.
