Pluck: A Modern Paprika Alternative
Paprika Recipe Manager has been a staple since 2010: a dependable web clipper with a meal planner, grocery list and pantry on phone and desktop. Paprika 3, the version in the stores today, has no AI and doesn't save from social media. Paprika 4 is in open beta and adds photo scanning and social import. Pluck was built around the videos, Reels and photos where people find recipes now, and it imports your Paprika collection in one step.

Where Paprika falls short
Paprika 3 doesn't save from social media
The released Paprika 3 clips recipes from web pages. It can't take an Instagram Reel, a TikTok or a Facebook video. Paprika 4, in open beta since September 2026, adds import from TikTok, Instagram, Facebook and YouTube; Hindsight Labs hasn't said whether it reads the video or only the caption.
No photo scanning in Paprika 3
A recipe card, a cookbook page or a screenshot has to be typed in by hand in Paprika 3. Photo scanning is one of the Paprika 4 beta features. Pluck reads photos today, handwriting included.
No AI help while you cook
Paprika's cook mode shows the steps, but there is no one to ask. The Paprika 4 beta uses Apple Intelligence for substitutions and text clean-up, not an assistant you can question mid-recipe. Pluck's AI cooking assistant knows the recipe and the step you're on.
Paprika 4 moves premium features to a subscription
Paprika 3 is a one-time purchase per platform ($4.99 on iOS and Android, $29.99 each on Mac and Windows). Paprika 4's premium features will need a subscription; the price hasn't been announced yet.
What Pluck does differently
Reads the whole video
Pluck watches the frames, reads on-screen text, listens to the narration and reads the caption, then writes one recipe from all of it. A recipe that's only spoken or only shown on screen still comes through.
Photos and carousels as well as links
Snap a cookbook page or grandma's handwritten card, or share an Instagram or TikTok photo carousel, and Pluck turns it into one editable recipe.
Brings your Paprika recipes with you

Is Pluck a modern Paprika alternative?
For most people who find recipes on social media, yes. Paprika 3 is a solid web clipper with a meal planner and grocery list, but it can't save from Instagram, TikTok, Facebook or YouTube and has no AI. Pluck extracts recipes from those videos, from photos and from any web page, and has its own meal plan, shared grocery list and cook mode. Paprika still wins if you want a desktop app or a one-time price.
What about Paprika 4?
Paprika 4 went into open beta on 28 September 2026. It adds photo scanning, import from TikTok, Instagram, Facebook and YouTube, USDA nutrition, family accounts and shareable cookbooks, with premium features on a subscription. It hasn't said whether social import reads the video or the caption, and it doesn't mention an AI assistant. We'll update this page when Paprika 4 is released.
Can Pluck import my existing Paprika recipes?
Yes. Pluck reads Paprika's .paprikarecipes and .paprikarecipe exports directly: Settings → Data → Import Recipes in the app, pick the file, and every recipe in it is converted automatically.
Does Pluck work on both iOS and Android like Paprika?
Yes, Pluck runs on iOS and Android phones. It has no Mac, Windows or web app, so if you plan meals at a desktop, Paprika is still ahead there.
How does Pluck's price compare to Paprika's?

You can share the list with up to 5 other people. On Plus and Pro, Fill my week plans the empty days from your own saved recipes. The free plan covers the current week; paid plans can plan any week and build a grocery list from a whole week's plan. Where Paprika keeps a pantry list, Pluck's "What can I cook?" ranks your saved recipes by what you have, typed in or spotted in a photo of your fridge.
